circa 1923
lacquered wood, shagreen, frosted glass
35¾ x 10¾ x 10¾ in. (90.8 x 27.3 x 27.3 cm)
Overall in very good condition. The wooden surfaces present with an overall homogenous black lacquer finish in well-preserved condition with occasional very minor areas of discoloration. The wooden surfaces present with light surface scratches, fine hairlines and minor abrasions throughout consistent with age and gentle use. The adjustable mechanism of the shade is in working condition. The wooden frame of the shade is slightly misaligned, not affecting functionality or stability, nor visually distracting. The shagreen surface covering the upper handle of the lamp beautifully complements the minimalist design of the piece and presents with beautiful shades of cream and green. The shagreen presents with some rubbing and faint discoloration throughout consistent with gentle handling. The frosted opaque glass shade is in very good condition with some light surface scratches throughout and light soiling throughout concentrated to the upper glass lid. The lamp is wired to American standards. Sotheby's does not guarantee electrical components and recommends having all wiring inspected by a licensed electrician.
