A three-colour gold and enamel portrait snuff box, Paris, 1779

oval, the lid applied with an earlier enamel portrait of a gentleman with blonde curled wig, wearing a lace jabot, rose gold frame within laurel wreath and floral garlands in different golds, a bow above, on a polished gold ground, chased borders with stylised shell scrolls to each side, interlaced zig zag and smaller laurel borders, the sides similarly decorated around oval plaques chased with classical trophies of gardening, hunting, love and music, the base centred with an oval medallion chased with two turtle doves by a fountain above cupid’s quiver, maker's mark illegible, Paris date letter Q for 1779, charge and discharge marks of ean Baptiste Fouache
