A small gold and enamel snuff box, FJ, Hanau, circa 1800

rectangular with rounded corners, the lid enamelled en plein with Tom and his pigeons, after John Russell, on an opaque white enamel ground, within gold bands enamelled with green ivy, the sides and base similarly decorated, maker's mark, sunray and crossed S, the rim numbered: 5340, 7.1 cm., 2 3/4 in. wide; and a small gold and enamel box, probably English, circa 1775, the lid enamelled with a cameo portrait of a Roman matron to dexter, perhaps intended as Livia, after the manner of George Michael Moser, within white enamel bead border and tranlsucent blue-green enamel around scrolls, the base chased with a scrolling ornament, apparently unmarked, 3.4cm., 1 3/8 in. wide;
