Gérald Genta was a painter, a goldsmith and a jeweler. Whenever he made a perpetual calendar based on his original design, the sky was not simply painted on the dial, like every other watchmaker before him. Rather, he created it from hard stone, lapis lazuli, a very long, difficult and costly process.
This original hand painted design, rendered in 1978, draws us to its moon that would eventually be realized in hard stone lapis lazuli and the sky sprinkled with gold dust.
