During the quartz crisis, several Swiss Manufactures, including Rolex, Patek Philippe, Omega and Piaget, joined forces to create their quartz movement. The result was the Beta 21.

A few years later, in 1977, Rolex launched its own movement, the calibre 5035, which powered the first Oysterquartz: the reference 17000.

The first pieces made, such as the present lot, did not bear the COSC mention on the dial. These early and sought-after watches 'Mark 1' or 'pre-Cosc' only had silvered, black and blue, as on the present watch, dials.

Offering the wonderful design of the Oysterquartz and an attractive Mark 1 blue dial which has acquired some purple hues, this piece will please both the seasoned and new collector alike.
