"Elysium" Conference Table

circa 1982-1983

executed for the Gunlocke Company, Wayland, New York

mahogany, wenge

29½ x 108 x 48 in. (74.9 x 274.3 x 121.9)

Overall in very good condition. A rare conference table with magnificent proportions, Wendell Castle's "Elysium" table wonderfully combines mahogany and wenge with superb carved decorations. The wooden surfaces present with light scratches throughout, most concentrated to the tabletop, as well as minor indentations and abrasions concentrated to the corners, edges and sides of the tabletop and base consistent with gentle use. Some faint and occasional discolorations to the wooden surface consistent with age and display. A highly sculptural piece by the master of American Studio woodworking.
