Ivan Turetskyy

Ivan Turetskyy was born in 1956 in Krasnoyarsk, USSR, graduating from the Lviv State Institute of Art in 1982. His post-Futurist, brightly coloured abstract canvases filled with dynamic rotating rhythms evoke the work of the pioneers of Ukrainian modernism, including Alexander Archipenko and Oleksandr Bohomazov. In the artist's words, 'The concept of colour, for me, is of paramount importance. The colours in my works are more important than the objects, because people can experience a wide range of emotions through colours.'

Alongside his work in painting, Turetskyy is also the co-founder of the Ukrainian Heraldic Society and the creator of several important coats of arms, including the small state coat of arms of Ukraine and the modern coat of arms of Lviv.
