Donated by Tsekh Gallery, Kyiv and Vilnius

Rustam Mirzoev was born in 1974 in Mykolaiv, Ukraine, graduating from the M. Samokish College of Fine Art in Simferopol, Crimea in 1993. His enigmatic figurative paintings explore the realm of dreams, memories and psychedelic states, evoking the work of artists of the Neue Sachlichkeit movement in Germany during the 1920s-1930s. In the words of Tsekh Gallery’s founder Oleksandr Shchelushchenko, Mirzoev’s works '…convey the atmosphere of the Ukrainian South – and also, the atmosphere of his time and generation; for example, there are references to the psychedelic music of the 1990s.'
