Wayne Gonzales’s “Yellow Jack Ruby with Girls” belongs to the artist’s first group of works associated with his monochromatic dot paintings that made him well-known during the Greater New York exhibition in 2005 at MoMA PS1.

From 2001 until 2005 Gonzales has been fascinated with the American recent history which led him to his series on the investigation of JFK’s assassination from pictures the artist would collect online.

Since Andy Warhol’s appropriation of “Jackie” & Wallace Berman’s “Semina 9” both from 1964, JFK’s assassination has haunted America’s culture and subculture with a similar shock than 9/11 would on the younger generations. Cady Noland’s 1989 “Bleuwald” and Wayne Gonzales 2002 “Yellow Jack Ruby with Girls” are without any doubt testimonial icons of such trauma. Wayne Gonzales is the only visual artist to have recorded the event with no violence and chosen Ruby as the ultimate protagonist of such historical moment.

Wayne Gonzales est le seul artiste visuel à avoir enregistré l'événement sans violence et à avoir choisi Ruby comme protagoniste ultime de ce moment historique.
