BUZZ ALDRIN'S EARLIEST HANDWRITTEN AND TYPED DRAFTS OF HIS SCIENCE FICTION NOVEL ENCOUNTER WITH TIBER
Set of 2 manuscripts:
Directly from the Personal Collection of Apollo 11 Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin
Buzz Aldrin's earliest handwritten and typed drafts of his science fiction novel Encounter with Tiber (1989), a story about an alien effort to colonize Earth 9,000 years ago, and humanity's effort to learn about the aliens and visit their home planet. The drafts are written as an outline for a screenplay.
A summary of the story is as follows:
"The rotation of the planet Tyber, orbiting the star Alpha Centauri, is slowing. When it stops, the planet will become uninhabitable. The leaders of the planet propose an exploration of a relatively nearby and hospitable world (Earth!) to evaluate it as a new home. This will be the second attempt - communication with the first crew was mysteriously lost after they arrived on Earth over 200 years ago. The new spacecraft and its crew are described in great detail, and they make it to Earth with some difficulty. There they encounter the descendants of the first crew, who had mutinied and chosen to stay on Earth. Their spacecraft then crashes on Earth, and all of the aliens must now make a living on this new planet. It is strongly implied that this is the origin of the human race."
