Description
Decorated Psalm initials
on a leaf probably from a Bible in Latin, manuscript on vellum. [Italy, 13th century (3rd? quarter)]
One leaf, c.185×125mm, ruled in plummet and written below top line in two columns of 41 lines (c.125×85mm), the text comprising Pss. 77:33–80:9, Psalm 80 (one of the eight usual major divisions of the a Psalter) with a LARGE PUZZLE INITIAL IN BLUE AND RED WITH PENWORK FLOURISHING INCORPORATING A BIRD, darkened at the edges but generally in fine condition. In a cardboard mount.
Although potentially from a Psalter, the mise-en-page suggests that this leaf is from a Bible.
