Man Ray

This is a photograph taken of the object-painting Parasol (Décollage), conceived by Man Ray in Antibes in 1938, where the artist spent the summer alongside Picasso and Dora Maar. The first owner of the original work was Pablo Picasso. The purpose of the work was to reiterate Man Ray’s long rebellion against the collage technique. Eventually in 1939, the present photograph served Man Ray to paint a faithful rendition of the 1938 Parasol, this time dispelling the use of collage and aptly renaming the canvas to Trompe L’Oeil.

Il s'agit d'une photographie tirée de l'objet-peinture Parasol (Décollage), conçu par Man Ray à Antibes en 1938, où l'artiste passait l'été aux côtés de Picasso et Dora Maar. Le premier propriétaire de l'œuvre originale était Pablo Picasso. Le but de l'œuvre était de réitérer la longue rébellion de Man Ray contre la technique du collage. Finalement, en 1939, cette photographie a servi à Man Ray pour peindre une interprétation fidèle du Parasol de 1938, cette fois en dissipant l'utilisation du collage et en renommant à juste titre la toile en Trompe L'Œil.
