Olivier Perdu, "Un témoignage aussi direct qu'inattendu sur Ophellas de Cyrène", Ancient
Society, vol. 51, 2021, pp. 15-49
Based on compelling evidence, Olivier Perdu (op. cit.) identifies the owner of the statue with Ophellas of Cyrene, the Macedonian general whom Ptolemy I appointed as governor of Cyrene ca. 322 and whose misadventures were later chronicled by Diodorus of Sicily.
