turned to his left, with parted lips and almond-shaped eyes, the hair probably once completed in stucco, a series of small holes framing the temples and forehead, the neck carved for insertion.

Height 32 cm.

Nose restored in marble with areas of fill along the join. Large breaks on back of head. Surface weathered and with chips, abrasions, and scratches overall. Areas of brownish incrustation, mostly on proper left side of neck. Drilled for mounting on a Perspex base.

The small holes point to a metal attachment, probably a wreath. Cf. a Ptolemaic ruler portrait in a private collection (H. Kyrieleis, Bildnisse der Ptolemäer, 1975, p. 174f., no. H1, pl. 56f.), which was also carved for insertion and shows a similar treatment of the back.
