A Large Apulian Red-figure Amphora

attributed to the Group of Copenhagen, circa 3rd quarter of the 4th Century B.C.


of slender form with high pedestal foot, convex handles, and flaring mouth, the front decorated with a youth and a bearded man standing within an Ionic naiskos, a boy with kalathos between them, the youth leaning on a shield and holding a spear, the bearded man offering a patera, a shield and a conical object in the field, a small mask in the center of the pediment, the reverse painted with a sash-draped stele flanked on each side by a lady and a youth, details in added white, yellow and red.
