Danseuse de corde

signed Berthe Morisot (lower right)

pastel on paper

60.9 by 46cm., 24 ½ by 18 ¾ in.

Framed: 81.3 by 66cm., 32 ¾ by 26 ½ in.

Executed in 1886.

Executed on buff-coloured laid paper. The sheet has been laid down onto a thin supporting piece of paper, which has in turn been taped along its edges to the original backing board. All four edges are deckled. There are artist's pinholes in the upper corners and two to the centre of the upper edge. The sheet is slightly time-stained but the medium remains bright and fresh. There is a 1cm-long repaired tear to the upper part of the extreme left edge. There are a few nicks to the extreme edges and a tiny paper loss to the centre of the lower edge. The sheet is very slightly undulated at the left and right edges. This work is in overall good condition.
