Japan—Adolfo Farsari studio (and others)
Collection of 73 photographs, many of Hokkaido, including a folding panorama, circa. 1880s
73 albumen prints, comprising 41 (average 192 x 265mm., or the reverse), individually mounted on card (mounts 328 x 460mm.), and 28 smaller albumen prints (average 120 x 172mm.) on 11 card mounts (mounts 328 x 460), and a 4-part albumen print panorama of Hokkaido (overall image 120 x 635mm.) on 4 card mounts joined by cloth, all captioned by hand in German in ink on the reverse, housed in a contemporary fitted buckram box with red label on the spine titled "Japan: Hokaido, allgemeines", occasional fading, box stained and slightly worn
A good collection of photographs including topographical views, trades, portraits, street traders, and scenes of Japanese life, including many of the Ainu people of Hokkaido.
