A hoshi-bachi [helmet with standing rivets]
Edo period, 17th century
the twelve-plate iron bowl of akoda-nari form with raised rivets, the wider frontal plate containing seven rows of three raised rivets gradually getting smaller towards to the top, seven-tier copper-gilt tehen kanamono, the leather mabisashi [peak] applied in gilt with details, the fukigaeshi [turnbacks] applied with kashiwa mon [daimyo oak leaves crest], the black lacquer shikoro of four tiers with spaced lacing in light blue braid, the lower tier in gilt leather embossed with scrolling foliage, gold lacquer to the reverse, gilt metal crescent shape maedate [forecrest]
The shikoro to peak: 30.5 cm., 12 in.
