Leonard Charles Nightingale painted mostly domestic figurative scenes and flowers and exhibited at both the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists in London. Reaching for a branch of blossoms, this elegantly dressed woman exemplifies the blithe aestheticism that characterizes many of Nightingale’s airy and cheerful scenes of carefree figures in nature.
