inscribed IDEO IVSTI TVLERVNT SPOLIA Sop.X (Therefore, the just carried off the spoils, Book of Wisdom, 10:20)

alabaster

height 23 in.; 58.4 cm.

Some minor chipping and abrasions throughout.

Some clean breaks have been restored (i.e. pieces have been reattached) including: tip of right-wing, part of Saint’s sword blade, Saint’s knees and ankles, some of his drapery on the back right side, one acanthus curl on lower right front corner and front left corner of base. Most of these restorations are well done and virtually impossible to see with the naked eye.

Otherwise there are chips and losses to tips of toes and some fingers are reattached. Wonderful carving.
