polychrome glazed terracotta

height 46 ½ in.; 118 cm.

Restored breaks include vertical break through sky (to the left of the crown). Old separation and firing crack along righthand side of virgin (expertly repaired). Other cracks on lower half of blue ground repaired. Vertical break through her proper right shoulder through crease in child’s left hip and between his legs with expertly restored and filled area between legs. Otherwise small restorations throughout including some of the child’s toes and fingers and on edges of drapery and outer wreath. Upper section including angels and crown was separately fired and joined with lower section (which is customary). There are some restorations and fills to the edges of drapery and to old chips on blue ground and on figures. Some expert restoration on wreath.


The relief is mounted on a wood backing and base for stability. Beautifully modelled and otherwise in very good condition.
