rectangular, the lid applied with the diamond-set gold cipher of Napoleon III, Emperor of the French from 1852 to 1870, on a blue enamel ground, within gold laurel wreaths and arabesque borders, the inside of the lid engraved: presented to Daniel Gooch Esqu^re by his Imperial Majesty Napoleon III Emperor of the French on the occasion of his visit to England 1855, the rim engraved with retailer's inscription: G.
