rectangular, the lid centred with the cipher of Louis Philippe, King of the French from 1830 to 1848, on a sablé ground, within rich leafy scrolling foliage, the inside engraved with presentation inscription 'Donné par le Roi à Mr. Horace Vernet Versailles 16 July 1837', maker's mark, bear's head 3e titre, Paris titre et garantie for 1809-1819 and 1819-1838, the bezel engraved by the retailer: Mal. Bernard Joaillier du Roi, numbered: No. 145
