A Gem-set Silver Model of an Elephant and Castle, Mid-19th Century


cast in standing position with curled trunk, the caparison pierced and chased to simulate fabric, centered by mask wearing feathered headdresses, surmounted by multiple turreted castle and seated mahout, set with numerous faceted and cabochon stones including garnets, opals, sea pearls, emeralds, diamonds, sapphires and rubies, mounted on a chased brass panel fixed to a stepped rectangular ebonized wood base
