[Apollo 15]

Dave Scott Saluting the U.S. Flag

Color photograph, 16 x 20 in., SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Mission Commander Dave Scott: "Dave Scott / Apollo 15 CDR."

In a photo originally taken on August 1, 1971, Mission Commander Dave Scott gives a military salute while standing beside the United States flag, which had been deployed near the end of Scott and Irwin's second EVA. The present view looks due south, with Hadley Delta in the background rising approximately 13,124 feet above the plain.

Also of scientific note: during his time on the lunar surface, Scott used a hammer and a feather to validate Galileo's theory that—without air resistance—objects will fall at the same rate, regardless of their mass.
