This iconic image was taken on July 20, 1969, and shows Buzz Aldrin's left bootprint in the lunar soil at Tranquility Base. The impression, which was about about 21/2 cm (1 in.) deep, demonstrated the cohesiveness and fineness of the lunar soil.
