oval basket on an oval foot, a flared mouth with fluted open basketwork, the lower half of the basket with cross-hatched open basketwork, painted in cobalt blue and gilt, the two gilded handles modelled as three swan heads with interlacing necks mounted with foliate scrolls, the oval stand of conforming design, inscribed on the base with the blue crowned imperial cypher for Nicholas I
