A set of three George III silver tea caddies, William and Aaron Lestourgeon, London, 1768


plain rectangular, the domed hinged lids each engraved with a coat-of-arms, motto, supporters and an earl's coronet

10.6cm, 4 1/4 in wide

935gr, 35oz.

The arms are those of Hobart impaling Drury for John Hobart, 2nd Earl of Buckinghamshire (1723-1793) whose first wife was Mary Anne (1740-1769), daughter of Lt. General Sir Thomas Drury, 1st and last Bt. of Overstone, Northamptonshire (1701-1779). He succeeded to the title upon the death of his father in 1756. The Earl's most important appointments were as the United Kingdom Ambassador to Russia from 1762 to 1765 and Lord Lieutenant of Ireland from 1776 to 1780
