oval, engraved with a coat-of-arms, the pierced body with suspending laurel and drapery swags, the pierced handle with floral scrollwork, the base with gadrooned border, marked on body, handle and the underside

The arms are those of Lamb impaling Milbanke for Peniston Lamb, 1st Viscount Melbourne (1745-1828), a British politician, who was created Viscount Melbourne of Kilmore, Co. Cavan in 1781. He married Elizabeth (1751-1818), daughter of Sir Ralph Milbank, 5th Bt. in 1769. Their second but eldest surviving son, William Lamb (1779-1848) became 2nd Viscount Melbourne upon the death of his father and as such served as Prime Minister in 1834 and from 1835 to 1841, respectively under William IV and Queen Victoria
