Property from the Collection of a British Nobleman
A George III silver two-handled tray and a pair of matching oval waiters, John Crouch I & Thomas Hannam, London, 1792
each bright-cut engraved in Neo-Classical style, the the centers engraved with a coat-of-arms within an oval cartouche, gadrooned rims, on four tapering scrolled feet, the large tray with leaf scroll handles, marked on the undersides

The arms are those of Maxwell of Kirkconnel, Kirkcudbrightshire impaling Scrope of Danby, Yorkshire for James Maxwell, eldest son of James Maxwell (d. 1762). He was married twice, first to Clementina Elizabeth Frances (1752-1815), daughter of Simon Scrope of Danby (1709-1788), Yorkshire and his wife, Anne Clementina (née Meynell, 1713-1793). Mr. Maxwell died on 5 February 1827 leaving an only daughter, Dorothy Mary Maxwell.
A silver vase-shaped coffee pot, Henry Greenaway, London, 1792, with the same bright-cut decoration and coat-of-arms, crest and motto is in the Dumfries Museum & Camera Obscura, accession no. DUMFM:1998.23. The same museum has a silver sugar sifter, Smith & Fearn, London, 1782, from the same collection, its terminal engraved with the same crest and motto, accession no. DUMFM:1998.19.
