A successful genre painter, Bakker-Korff was leading member of two of the artists' collectives that were so significant in 18th and 19th-century Dutch art: the Pulchri studio in The Hague, and the Leids Schilder- en Tekengenootschap Ars Aemula Naturae, in his adoptive city of Leiden.
