Both canvasses have been newly relined (glue). Both painted surfaces seem to be in a very nice condition and are covered with a very fine and dense craquelure pattern. Gentleman: no major damages seem to be apparent. The craquelure pattern of the stretcher is a bit more visible on the left. UV: the varnish layer fluoresces almost completely showing minor strengthening in the curtain, in his costume (black coat), and a few tiny strengthenings throughout. Lady: a tiny paint loss can be seen in the lower left corner. Some small discoloured retouchings can be seen around the edges. The blacks of her costume and hair have worn a bit thin. UV: the varnish layers fluoresces largely showing strengthening in the carpet, in her lap on the left, in the curtain, some in the clouds, in the figure's head dress and some scattered throughout. Frame: plain oak brown wooden frames.
