Monumental Bust of Napoleon

white marble, on a white marble socle

inscribed: 162

85cm., 33½in. overall

The bust is overall in very good condition. There is a natural vein running from the back of Napoleon’s hair around the proper right side of his neck and another smaller horizontal vein on the middle of his right shoulder. There is a further area of natural veining on the proper left side of his neck. There are various very small natural inclusions, notably around his proper right eye. There are various small chips around the edge of the bust, notably on the proper right shoulder. There are some minor chips around the number '162' on the back of the shoulders. There is an original, or old, plaster fill between the bust and socle. There is general surface dirt notably in the hair, otherwise the condition is very good.
