Portrait of a gentleman

Watercolour and bodycolour, heightened with gold on vellum, silver-gilt frame with scroll surmount;

signed and dated centre left: 1657 / IH.

77 by 60 mm.

An impressive portrait where the artist has used a wide range of brush stokes and paint effects. There is very minor oxidization of the lead white of his shirt lower left.
