J. Harris, The Artist and the Country House, London 1979, p. 82, fig. 81
This is a rare drawing of a country house from the 17th century. It shows Boningtons, which stands two miles north-east of Stanstead Abbots, amongst fields, orchards and vegetable plots. The coat of arms of the owner are those of Ralph Byde, a lawyer and brother of Sir Thomas Byde of Ware Park in the same county.

John Harris, the author of The Artist and the Country House, compared the work to a view of Lullingston Castle, Kent, a pen and ink drawing which he dated to the same period.1 For a time the present drawing held an attribution to Thomas Badslade (fl. 1719-1750).
