Sale, London, Sotheby's, 31 May 1932, lot 25 (as Lucas Vostermans, After Holbein)
Sir William Butts was Physician to Henry VIII and was knighted by him under the title of Sir William Butts of Norfolk.

Holbein's original painting of Sir William Butts is now housed in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston.  It originally formed a pair with a portrait of Sir William's wife, Diana Butts. A preparatory drawing for the original painting of Diana is in the Royal Collection.  The National Portrait Gallery, London and The Royal College of Physicians also have portraits of Sir William, after Holbein.
