signed Keith Vaughan and inscribed (on the reverse)

oil on canvas

unframed: 56.5 by 41cm.; 22½ by 16¼in.

framed: 78 by 62cm.; 30¾ by 24½in.

Executed in 1958.

We are grateful to Dr Ian Massey for his kind assistance with the cataloguing of the present work, and to Gerard Hastings, who is currently working on Keith Vaughan: The Graphic Art to be published by Pagham Press, for preparing the catalogue entry.

The canvas is original. The work appears in very good overall condition.

There is a small area to the upper left quadrant with fine lines of cracking, possible lifting and one or two possible tiny flecks of loss. One or two possible further more minor instances of craquelure. A loss to the frame slip at the upper right corner with an associated loss to the paint in the same area. Minor frame abrasion to the lower edge. Some minor instances of reticulation in line with the Artist's working methods. Light surface dirt in places and one or two specks of matter and staining.

Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching.

The work is held in a painted slip within a composite painted wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
