Executed in 1970.

We are grateful to Peter Khoroche, author of Ivon Hitchens, Lund Humphries, London, 2007, for his kind assistance with the cataloguing of the present work.

Original canvas. The work is in generally very good overall condition. There are a few lines of fine craquelure to scattered areas, particularly in the lower right corner and along the right of the upper edge. There are further fine lines of craquelure where the canvas pulls over the stretcher bar, with one or two tiny associated flecks of loss, including to the green pigment upper left. There is a small scuff to the paint surface, just to the left of this loss. Some minor surface dirt. A tiny fleck of loss to the brown pigment lower centre, with one or two possible flecks elsewhere. Some flattening and losses to impasto tips. Ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of retouching. Held under glass in a metallic and painted wood frame with a white inset. Unexamined out of frame.
