Cord 2

signed Clough and inscribed (on the reverse)

oil and sand on canvas

unframed: 70 by 55cm.; 27½ by 21¾in.

framed: 76 by 60.5cm.; 29¾ by 23¾in.

Executed in 1995.

We are grateful to Gerard Hastings for his kind assistance with the cataloguing of the present work.

Original canvas. Generally in very good overall condition. There are artist's pinholes towards the edges of the work, indicating the artist may have re-stretched the work in the process of making. There are a few scuffs to the work and tiny losses of sand. Some unevenness to the canvas upper left. There is adhesive tape to the extreme edges. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a large patch of retouching directly above the cord. There are further individual patches of retouching leading from the centre of the work to the upper edge. These may well have been later re-workings by the artist herself. Held in a black painted wood frame.
