The Shire Horse Elephant in an Extensive Landscape

Signed in ligature JWARD RA lower right; incised with initials JW RA on the reverse and inscribed Elephant / For Henry Mieux's / favourite / JWARD RA on an old label affixed to the reverse

oil on panel

panel: 9 7/8 by 10 1/4 in.; 24.7 by 26 cm.

framed: 14 1/2 by 18 1/4 in.; 36.8 by 46.4 cm.

This panel is in beautiful state, with a lovely and scintillating paint surface. The panel is uncradled, and unevenly beveled on the reverse. There is a small loss to the lower left corner, but this is covered by the frame. Under UV: mostly pristine, with some small restorations in the lower left and lower right corners. A few finely applied cosmetic strokes at the edges and in the horse. This painting is very recommendable, and ready to hang. Offered in a gilt wood frame.
