Condition report

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.

These works do not appear to have been restored for many years. They are painted on oak panels which show no reinforcements on the reverse. The panels are flat, and the paint layers are stable. Both pictures are significantly yellowed with old varnish.

In the portrait of the woman, there is a small raised crack in the panel on the top edge towards the upper right corner, but the surface is otherwise even. In the portrait of the man, there are a few retouches in the cuff around the hand in the lower right corner. If the works were cleaned, a few other small retouches would presumably become apparent in the backgrounds.

Although cleaning and accurately retouching the works would be beneficial, they are generally in very good condition.

"In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above.
