The canvases are both wax-lined and stable on their stretchers. The images read well beneath the varnish, with some discoloration perhaps due to old varnish in areas of the background of each, but it is not distracting. Stretcher bar marks are visible around all 4 sides of each composition but are not distracting. On the first canvas, a 2-inch line of repair has discolored and is visible on the figure's leg. Under UV inspection, only very few spots of retouching are visible on either canvas. On the first, a triangular repaired tear fluoresces at the upper right, along with a small bit of frame abrasion above that, and the aforementioned repair on the leg. On the second canvas, a few dots in each corner of the background fluoresce as well as a circular old repair near the figure's fluttering scarf. The paintings can hang in their present condition. Offered in matching decoratively carved giltwood frames.

These goddess figures are based on examples from ancient Roman wall paintings, which became a major source of inspiration for fashionable interior design in the nineteenth century.
