An interior with a family at supper

oil on panel

panel: 13 by 11 in.; 33 by 27.9 cm.

framed: 18 ¼ by 15 ¾ in.; 46.4 by 40 cm.

The vertical panel is planar, cradled, and stable. The painting has not been recently restored. There is some old, stable tenting along the vertical wood grain near the left edge. There are a few small scattered losses near this tenting, two near the center of the left edge, one at the upper left corner, and some frame abrasion along the lower edge . The varnish is somewhat uneven, and there is a crack in the upper left background. Some of the definition in the figures has been thinned with age and old cleanings. Inspection under UV reveals almost no retouching to the figures, only a few scattered spots in the background around them. UV also reveals more broadly applied retouching and strengthening to the darks of the background to the left and above the figures. Offered in a decorative gilt frame.
