oil on canvas

canvas: 29 by 24 in.; 73.7 by 61 cm.

framed: 36 ½ by 29 ¼ in.; 92.7 by 74.3 cm.

The canvas is lined and stable on its stretcher though it has a slight undulation. The image reads relatively well considering the dark color palette. The varnish appears glossy in areas and craquelure is present throughout but is stable. Stretcher bar marks are visible around all four edges but are not distracting. Under UV inspection, the varnish is milky and impedes further inspection, and the only visible retouching is at the boy's hand, but other retouching is likely present beneath the varnish. Offered in a decoratively carved giltwood frame.
