Bolognese School, late 17th century

The flowing blonde hair of the Magdalene recalls many paintings of this subject by Lorenzo Pasinelli (1629 - 1700) who was a seminal figure in Bolognese painting of the late 17th century. The half-length Penitent Magdalene motif also derives from earlier works by Guido Reni and his many followers.
