Les Remords de l'ogre de Corse

signé Ensor (en bas vers la droite); signé et titré (au dos, d'après le catalogue raisonné)

huile sur panneau

Peint en 1890-91.

16 x 21,4 cm; 6¼ x 8⅜ in.

The panel is sound. There is a milky varnish preventing UV light from fully penetrating. However examination under UV light appears to reveal no evidence of retouching. Surface is a bit dirty with a few minors stains in places and scattered dots of discolouration in the sky, probably dirt ingrained to the varnish. There are a few superficial surface scratches, notably two vertical scratches to the upper right quadrant. There is some frame rubbing along the extreme edges associated with tiny dots of paint losses. This work is in overall good condition.
