From a series of ten known designs of otokodate (‘street-knights’), or chivalrous men who help the weak and fight the strong. This print is a portrait of the kabuki hero and Edo otokodate Goshaku Somegoro playing a shakuhachi (bamboo flute) and wearing a kimono with a motif of melon plants.
