woodblock print, from the series Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido Road (Tokaido gojusan tsugi no uchi), signed Hiroshige ga, censor's kiwame, published by Takenouchi Magohachi (Hoeido), circa 1833–34

Along the route of the Tokaido, connecting the new capital of Edo to the old capital of Kyoto, a daimyo procession crosses a rushing stream in heavy downpour.
