Bouquet de girofles

signed Kisling and dated Sanary 1948 (upper right)

oil on canvas

41.1 by 33.3cm., 16⅛ by 13⅛in.

Framed: 55.7 by 48cm., 21⅞ by 18⅞in.

Painted in Sanary in 1948.

To be included in the Volume IV et Additifs aux Tomes I, II, et III of the Catalogue Raisonné de l’Oeuvre de Moïse Kisling currently being prepared by Jean Kisling and Marc Ottavi.

The canvas is not lined and is evenly tensioned on its original stretcher. UV inspection reveals a very small area of retouching around an impastoed bud towards the centre of the bouquet. There are fine lines of stable paint shrinkage in places also to the bouquet. There are wonderful areas of thick impasto which are well preserved and this work is in overall good condition.
