Le Baiser

inscribed Jean Decoen and dated 1914

marble

Length: 164cm., 64½in.

Executed in 1914.

Overall, the condition of the marble is very good, with minor wear and some dirt to the surface consistent with age. There are small intentional drill holes to the figures throughout, to create a textured surface. Other parts of the surface are deliberately left roughly hewn. There are a few dirt/ scuff marks to the marble, including to the man's buttocks, to his face, and to the woman's side. There is veining to the marble, consistent with the material, including some darker slightly open veins to the woman's proper right shoulder, to her proper left arm, and to her proper left thigh. There are a few inclusions, consistent with the material, including to the man's forehead, to the woman's proper left elbow, her proper right hipbone and her proper right upper thigh. There are some minor reddish marks which are very slightly visible to the woman's proper left arm and elbow. The wood base is in good condition overall, with minor chips and scratches to the edges and corners. A small corner of the vinyl cover of the wood base has been reattached.
